Thank you so much to all the 30 volunteers who put in a combined 140 hours to help make our HHW day such a big success.  A total of 358 households in Mason county took advantage of this opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste.

The event is made possible with allocations from counties, townships and municipalities.  In addition to the support from local government entities and donations from individuals, OxyChem, the Hamlin Lake Preservation Society, the Pere Marquette Watershed Council, and A Few Friends of the Environment of the World (AFFEW) also contributed funds.

Every year, items collected are prevented from entering the environment and include not only random toxic items found in many homes and garages, but also both DEA-controlled and non-controlled pharmaceuticals, liquid and solid pesticides and herbicides, auto and household batteries, oil-based paints, and electronics.  Many of these items get recycled into new products and uses. By working together, we've proven yet again that we can create a cleaner environment for our future generations.

Remember that this is an annual event held the third Saturday in August.
