Large Fruit Trees
When purchasing apple trees, be sure that you have two different varieties planted within 50' of each other so that they cross pollinate to get fruit. Call for pollenizer recommendations. Or add a crabapple to improve pollination! Large-size fruit trees have larger rootstock and require shovel-dug holes (at least 2' x 2') and more time for planting. If a hole is too small with not enough space for roots, roots will "J-root" and grow up to the soil surface. This exposure will dry out roots and kill the tree. Plan ahead and plant it right!
