Soils: moist, sandy, well-drained soils
Habitat: low deciduous woods, streambanks, swamps
Flower Color: white/yellow
Bloom Time: early spring
Fruit: red
Wildlife Value: Host plant for Eastern Tiger Swallowtail! Fragrant flowers and foliage attract other birds and butterflies

Uses: dried leaves and twigs can be used to make a tea. Dried and powdered fruit can be used as a spice.
