A mix of native wildflowers and grasses for soils that are dry.
If you are looking for a low-maintenance alternative to mowing a lawn, this is a great fit, and the butterflies love it! This is a good mix for our sandy soils and includes native prairie grasses and wildflowers. The species are planned so that you have a variety of colors blooming throughout the season. Native species are better adapted to our Michigan climate and soils than some ornamental species, so they require limited watering to get started and practically no watering, fertilizer or mowing needed after they become established. As many of our native grasses are “bunch grasses”, the bulk of the plant height will be in the 2-3' range, but flowering stems of grasses and forbs could reach 4-5’ tall at maturity. Please note that not all seed is sourced in Michigan. If you are looking for specific genotype seed, shorter plant species or other custom mixes, please contact our office directly.
